You’ve just unpacked and are getting settled into your new Rockport house. The waterfront location is beautiful, and the weather is nice. But for some reason, your house just doesn’t quite feel like home. This is normal, and it is a problem that can be solved with the help of the following home decorating and organizing advice.
Use Familiar Furniture and Décor
If you liked the way the rooms in your old home were decorated, you can arrange furniture and décor in some of your new home’s rooms in a similar manner. To make it feel homier, hang photos of your family and friends—both new and old. You can also mix things up by rearranging your old furniture differently. One way to do this is to use the furnishings from your old living room in your new family room or game room.
Try Something New
If there is something that you always wanted to do in your old home but were nervous to try, give it a shot in your new home. Purchase that painting, rug, or mantelpiece that you could hardly resist on your last visit to the home furnishing store, and allow yourself to enjoy its decorative and functional purposes in your new waterfront home.
Paint Your Walls
You can experiment with paint to make your new Rockport property feel homier. Create an accent wall in your bedroom or study using your favorite color, or use earth tones to give your home a warm and cozy atmosphere.
Make Comfort a Priority
Formal furniture impresses guests and can give a home a regal feel, but oftentimes at the expense of the homeowner’s comfort. If you want your house to feel homey, you need to select sofas and dining chairs that are truly comfortable to sit in. It is possible to do this without sacrificing aesthetics.
